October 10th is World Homeless day.
For August 2016, 4248 adults were recorded as homeless in Ireland.
For the same period, 2363 children were homeless.
Most of the families becoming homeless have never experienced homelessness before and never imagined that this could happen to them.
Thousands of families are struggling on very low incomes or social welfare and many are falling into serious housing difficulties as rents continue to rise. Some families are becoming homeless as Rent Supplement payments fail to cover the rent. They fall into arrears and end up losing their home. Many are then housed in hotel rooms with no facilities to cook or clean, with often just a bed to share.
